A Showcase of Speed, Endurance, and Awareness
Event Background
The State Red Run is a public health initiative and 10K road race that promotes healthy living while raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Organized by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), the Red Run is part of a campaign to encourage safe lifestyles, reduce stigma, and unite communities in the fight against HIV and STIs.
By blending athletics with health awareness, the Red Run aims to:
- Enhance visibility of HIV/AIDS issues.
- Promote safe and responsible choices among youth.
- Encourage use of HIV/STI services.
- Foster fitness and healthy lifestyles.
- Reduce stigma and discrimination around HIV.
2025 Race Day Highlights
On 6th September 2025, the State Red Run was held at the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence, Sovima (Chümoukedima) under the theme “Run for Awareness, Run Against HIV and STIs.”
The program began with a welcome address and a collective pledge led by NSACS officials. A total of 224 runners from all 17 districts of Nagaland, along with participants from neighboring states, joined the event. The course featured both State-level races (restricted to district qualifiers from Nagaland) and Open 10K races (open to all participants).
The race was flagged off with enthusiastic cheers, and the day concluded with a prize distribution ceremony honoring the winners, alongside words of encouragement from the organizers.
Health and Community Goals
Organizers emphasized that the Red Run was more than just a race. It represented a collective effort to use sport as a platform for health advocacy. The event encouraged healthy lifestyles, positive behavioral choices, and community solidarity, while discouraging practices that increase vulnerability to HIV and other health risks.
By connecting athletics with awareness, the Red Run served as a reminder that fitness, education, and compassion are essential tools in building a stronger, healthier Nagaland.
